ENECHANGE has introduced the location technology system “what3words” into the EV charging ports information site “EVsmart.net”

ENECHANGE Ltd.  (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tomoya Maruoka) is pleased to announce the integration of the location-based technology system “what3words” into its EV charging ports information site “EVsmart.net”. The “what3words” system divides the world into 3-meter squares, assigning each square a unique combination of three words, allowing for precise location search and sharing. With this feature, EV users can accurately identify the location of each charging spot, making it easier to share location information with car navigation systems and smartphone apps.

Background

Many EV users have reported that while facility addresses are listed, the exact location within the facility is unclear, making it difficult to find the charging ports. Additionally, when transferring coordinate information obtained from “EVsmart.net” to car navigation systems or smartphones, it is necessary to go through address or map apps, adding unnecessary steps and burdening EV users.

By newly introducing “what3words”, it becomes possible to specify accurate locations using just three words, addressing these challenges. This feature is expected to enhance the convenience of EV charging ports and further increase the value of “EVsmart.net”.

Regarding the enhancement of functionality through the introduction of “what3words”

“what3words” is a geolocation technology system that divides the world into 3-meter squares and assigns each square a unique combination of three words, allowing for easy search and sharing of precise locations. Because it is expressed in simple terms, it is also suitable for sharing via chat and voice input. It can be used on websites and smartphone apps, and is also integrated into the car navigation systems of some vehicles, such as SUBARU, MITSUBISHI MOTORS, and Alpine Electronics. By utilizing these “what3words addresses,” one can accurately reach the target charging ports.

We have added the “what3words address” display to the detailed page of each EV charging ports listed on “EVsmart.net.” This enables pinpoint location identification of charging ports, enhancing convenience in various scenarios.

• When the location of charging ports within large areas, such as commercial facilities or multistory parking lots, is difficult to discern.
• When you want to share the location via chat apps or voice input.
• When you want to directly specify the location when sending location information to car navigation systems or navigation apps without entering an address.
