ENECHANGE EV Charge Secures Top Position for App-Compatible Level 2 Charging Ports

ENECHANGE Ltd. Background

In line with the Japanese government’s goal to achieve a 100% electric vehicle (EV) ratio in new passenger car sales by 2035, the Company introduced “ENECHANGE EV Charge” in November 2021. Recognizing the critical role of EV charging infrastructure in driving EV adoption, the government has set a target of 300,000 public EV charging ports. The Company aims to invest up to 30 billion JPY by 2027 to install a maximum of 30,000 domestic Level 2 EV charging ports to support this vision.

Leveraging government subsidies, such as the “Promotion Subsidies for Charging and Discharging Infrastructure for the Spread of Clean Energy Vehicles,” the Company’s “ENECHANGE EV Charge” has rapidly gained nationwide adoption. Through “ENECHANGE EV Charge,” EV charging ports can be implemented with zero setup or monthly costs. Consequently, the Company has maintained its position as the leading provider of Level 2 charging ports with a 6kW output, covering all 47 prefectures in Japan.

Furthermore, due to rapid expansion since summer 2023, more than 500 charging ports have been installed within a month. In the latest survey conducted by the EV charging station information website “GoGoEV,” the Company’s app-compatible Level 2 charging ports have secured the highest number of installations, regardless of output capacity.

Surpassing 100,000 EVs/PHEVs in New Vehicle Sales from January to September 2023

The expansion of EV charging infrastructure is closely tied to EV adoption in Japan. The Company considers the sales ratio of EVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to be a vital indicator of this.

According to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA) for “Sales by Fuel Type (Passenger Cars)” and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association’s “New Vehicle Sales Report by Vehicle Type (Including Mini Four-Wheel Vehicles),” the cumulative sales of new EVs and PHEVs in Japan from January to September 2023 have surpassed 108,271 units. This figure exceeds the 2022 annual cumulative sales of 95,426 units, marking the first time that the annual cumulative sales have surpassed the 100,000-unit milestone. When comparing the data up to September with the previous year, 2023 has seen approximately a 60% increases.

Furthermore, in terms of monthly sales figures, September 2023 witnessed the second-highest number of EV sales in history, with 8,994 units, and the highest number of PHEV sales, totaling 5,670 units. This remarkable growth represents a 4.04% market share of all passenger cars, including light vehicles.
