Demand response service to be provided to ENEX LIFE SERVICE as the “Winter Power Saving Point Campaign”
ENECHANGE Ltd. is pleased to announce the provision of its SMAP DR demand response service for households to ENEX LIFE SERVICE Co., Ltd (hereinafter ELS). The program will launch on December 1, 2022 (tentative name) as “Winter Power Saving Point Campaign,” and is a dedicated power saving program for ELS subscribers.
Background
Following a turbulent energy market summer, there are concerns about power shortages this winter as well. The government has begun to encourage electric power companies to introduce peak shaving programs that utilize Demand Response as a countermeasure to the tight electricity market. In the peak shaving program, users save electricity in response to power company requests. The equivalent of 2,000 yen per low-voltage (household) location is awarded in proportion to the amount of electricity saved.
About our efforts with ELS
Against the backdrop of the above government requests, ELS has adopted the SMAP DR Basic Plan for its “Winter Power Saving Point Campaign,” its electricity saving program to be launched this winter.
In this program, ELS and electricity users will cooperate with to save electricity by using SMAP DR. Users who have announced their participation in the program will be awarded points based on the amount of electricity they save in response to requests from the ELS. In addition, points worth 2,000 yen will be awarded by the government. Details of the power-saving program will be announced on ELS’s corporate website and Customer My Page around October 2022.

About “SMAP DR” Demand Response Service for Households
If there is an imbalance between the amount of electricity used (demand) and the amount of electricity generated (supply), the supply can become unstable or cause power outages. Electric power companies adjust the amount of electricity generated while forecasting the amount of electricity used to achieve a stable supply on a daily basis. There are two types of DR: negative DR (reduced DR) and positive DR (increased DR). In summer and winter, when there is a risk that the amount of electricity generated will not be sufficient to meet the expected electricity consumption, DR is triggered to encourage users to change their behavior to lower their electricity consumption through energy conservation. On the other hand, “Posi-Watt” DR is activated in spring and fall, when the amount of electricity generated is higher than the expected amount, to encourage users to actively use electricity during these times to shift their peak usage.
