Orders for 6kW EV charging ports exceed 3,000
ENECHANGE Ltd. is pleased to announce that cumulative orders for 6kW charging portsfor electric vehicles (EVs) have now exceeded 3,000. We achieved this milestone one year and four months since the service was launched in November 2021.
Since the launch of its EV charging business in November 2021, ENECHANGE has been expanding the installation of EV charging ports, with the goal of investing up to 30 billion yen by 2027 to install 30,000 EV charging ports in Japan. 2022 was a bumper year for EVs: the Nissan Sakura, a light EV, was selected as the Japan Car of the Year. In addition, the combined sales of EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 96,585 units (2.17 times more than the previous year)*, making it a symbolic year for the expansion of the EV market. As of November 2022, ENECHANGE is also beginning to promote its EV charging infrastructure through TV commercials and cab advertisements.
Behind our early achievement of 3,000 cumulative orders are two overwhelming strengths of our ENECHANGE EV Charge service. The first is the high level of convenience for EV drivers: a 6kW charging port takes half the time of a conventional 3kW charging port to charge the same amount of electricity. In addition, through a partnership with e-Mobility Power, a leading EV charging network, all EV charging cards issued by automakers will be compatible with ENECHANGE EV Charge starting in late April 2023. This is the first time this has been done for a 6kW charging port in Japan. The second is the all-in-one service. ENECHANGE handles everything from installation work, subsidy applications, provision of payment applications and management systems, support for attracting customers, and response to inquiries due to malfunctions or errors. The minimal amount of work required for installation and operation has been satisfactory to charging port owners to date.
As a leading company in EV charging infrastructure, ENECHANGE will continue to contribute to the expansion of the charging infrastructure and the improvement of convenience for EV drivers.
*Totals are based on the Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA) passenger car sales by fuel type and the Japan Mini Vehicles Association (JKA) new vehicle sales report by nickname.
