Installation of 6kW Level 2 Charging Ports at 42 Stores of Major Supermarket Heiwado Group

ENECHANGE Ltd. is pleased to announce the installation of its ENECHANGE EV Charge 6kW Level 2 charging ports at 40 stores of Heiwado Co., Ltd. and at 2 stores from its group company, Five Star Corporation, for a total of 42 store locations.

Background for Installation

The government aims to make low-emission vehicles 100% of new passenger car sales by 2035. To achieve this, the government plans to double the current number of charging ports to 300,000 by 2030. Particularly, destination charging is expected to be between 100,000 to 150,000 ports. To realize this, installing more than 10,000 charging ports annually is essential.

ENECHANGE is planning to invest up to 30 billion yen by 2027 to install 30,000 Level 2 charging ports across the nation. Commercial establishments are especially high in demand as destination charging spots for EV users who don’t have home charging capabilities. Therefore, ENECHANGE is actively installing Level 2 charging ports with efficient 6kW output.

Heiwado operates 154 stores primarily in the Shiga Prefecture, and in the Kinki, Hokuriku, and Tokai areas. They aim to be an “indispensable presence in the community” through stores like Al Plaza shopping centers and Friend Mart supermarkets. Five Star operates 92 restaurants, including family restaurants like COCO’S.

Heiwado Group is promoting sustainability efforts. To help realize a decarbonized society, they aim to reduce their CO2 emissions by 46% by the fiscal year 2030, compared to the fiscal year 2013. They have led the regional EV shift by installing fast charging ports in their parking lots since 2013 when the government started focusing on EV infrastructure.

This time, due to aging facilities, they have chosen ENECHANGE EV Charge, the most widely adopted Level 2 charging port. Unlike fast charging ports, which require users to move their cars within 30 minutes, these Level 2 charging ports offer more convenience as they don’t require users to interrupt their shopping or meals. Furthermore, they offer twice the charging speed of typical Level 2 charging ports and are compatible with charging cards, providing peace of mind to existing Heiwado charging port users.

A total of 117 ports in 40 Heiwado stores and 4 ports in 2 Five Star stores are now operational. An additional 3 Heiwado stores are also scheduled for installation within 2023.
