ENECHANGE develops E-Cloud RED, a DX support tool for renewable energy operations

ENECHANGE Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & CEO: Yohei Kiguchi), in cooperation with KANDEN ENERGY SOLUTION CO., INC. (Head office: Kita-ku, Osaka; President: Yukio Kawasaki; hereinafter Kenes), has developed E-Cloud RED, a support tool to support solar PPA models.

Background

To achieve carbon neutrality in 2050, it is important to address the energy sector, which accounts for more than 80% of greenhouse gas emissions. In the Basic Policy for the Realization of GX (GX Basic Policy), which was approved by the Government of Japan’s Cabinet in February, renewable energy is identified as a key source of a stable, decarbonized energy supply. Among renewable energies, there have been measures to promote the introduction of photovoltaic energy generation, such as the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) system. With the end of the FIT system in 2019, new business models such as the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model and self-consumption are now being established.

The PPA model requires forecasting the generation and demand of photovoltaic resources and submitting three planning values (generation sales, demand procurement, and partial supply notification) daily to the Office for Organization for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators, Japan (hereinafter OCCTO).

Normally, energy producers are required to conduct daily energy generation and demand forecasts, commit to generation volumes, and submit them to the OCCTO, which requires human resources for daily operations. E-Cloud RED streamlines these tasks, and with demand for PPA models expected to grow further in the future, a significant reduction in human resources is expected.

PPA model support tool E-Cloud RED

E-Cloud RED is a digital transformation (DX) support tool for solar PPA operators. The tool forecasts solar generation and demand and automatically submits the required reports to the OCCTO on a daily basis based on the results. By centralizing these forecasts, the tool improves operational efficiency, reduces costs spent on human resources, and prevents errors. The ability to centrally manage multiple energy resources and demand points supports the expansion of PPA projects and reduces management workload by allowing historical data to be stored and displayed on the user interface.
