ENECHANGE and EVsmart to host “Japan EV of the Year 2023” award
ENECHANGE Ltd., in collaboration with the electric vehicle (EV) blog EVsmart is pleased to announce they will be hosting the Japan EV of the Year 2023 award competition. This award aims to honor the most outstanding electric vehicle (EV) sold in Japan throughout the year, with the goal of promoting the future adoption of EVs and EV charging ports in Japan.
Background of the award
As evidenced by the dominance of next-generation EVss at the recent Japan Mobility Show 2023, the global shift towards EVs is accelerating, and the variety of EV models available in Japan is steadily increasing. In a year dubbed the “Year of the EV”, from January to October 2023, the cumulative sales of new EVs and PHEVs reached 119,052*, approximately 1.6 times the level of 2022.

About Japan EV of the Year
ENECHANGE, which aims to realize a sustainable society by promoting the use of EV charging ports, and the EVsmart blog, which has been providing information on electric vehicles since the beginning of the EV era,
launched the “Japan EV of the Year” project last year as an initiative to select attractive electric vehicles. In 2022, its inaugural year, the project saw active participation with 29 EV enthusiasts and 433 members of the public casting their votes online, resulting in the Nissan Sakura being crowned as the first-ever Grand Prix winner.

Selection Method | There will be two types of voting: public voting and evangelist voting, and the “Japan EV of the Year 2023” will be determined by the number of points obtained from the combined total.
1. General Voting How to vote: Users can cast their vote through the general voting page (Google Form) on the special website. They can vote for up to 3 models from among the selected models. Votes must be accompanied by a 200-character recommendation comment. Votes without a recommendation comment areinvalid. Voting is limited to once per account. <Voting Form> https://forms.gle/icxhAsuZzuSvTemW8 Points Allocation: One point will be awarded for each valid vote cast during the voting period, which will be combined with the Evangelist Vote points. 2. Vote for evangelists How to vote: Evangelists are representatives from media outlets that disseminate EV information, key persons from EV-related companies, key persons from EV owners’ clubs, and others who have knowledge about new EVs. They will be asked to vote on the EVsmart blog. The evangelists’ scores and comments will be presented in a series of articles on the EVsmart blog. Score Distribution: Each evangelist has 20 points to distribute to the EV models. The EV with the highest rating must receive at least 10 points. There will be no limit to the number of EV models to be selected. For each model , evangelists will be asked to send a comment explaining their selection. |
Awards | Grand Prix (1 car)
The car with the highest total points from the public and evangelist votes will be awarded the “Japan EV of the Year” Grand Prix. Special Award A special award may be given based on the number of points received, evangelist evaluations, and other factors as appropriate. |
