Collaborate to Promote Greenhouse Gas Reduction at Construction Sites Through the Introduction of EVs
Tokyu Construction Co., Ltd. ( hereinafter referred to as Tokyu Construction), Mitsubishi Auto Leasing Corporation ( hereinafter referred to as Mitsubishi Auto Leasing), and ENECHANGE Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ENECHANGE) announce their collaboration to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the construction industry through the utilization of electric vehicles (EVs).
Background
The creation of a sustainable global environment is a worldwide challenge, with various industries in Japan also making concerted efforts to reach this. The construction industry is no exception. Aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors is actively working to reduce CO2 emissions from vehicles and heavy machinery. Due to the nature of construction work, which uses vehicles according to project timelines, renting gasoline vehicles for site transport is common. Replacing these vehicles with EVs not only reduces CO2 emissions during operation but is also expected to improve working conditions in poorly ventilated areas such as tunnel construction sites.
Overview of the Initiative
Tokyu Construction, certified as an “Eco-First Company” by the Minister of the Environment for its efforts towards creating a carbon-neutral and circular society, is working with Mitsubishi Auto Leasing and ENECHANGE to electrify its transportation fleet. This collaboration aims to achieve Tokyu Construction’s “Eco-First Commitment” of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by the fiscal year 2030.
■Roles of Each Company
Tokyu Construction: Promotes the adoption of EVs at construction sites, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 1.67 tons per vehicle per year.
Mitsubishi Auto Leasing: Provides leasing of EVs with superior driving and safety performance, and manages vehicle inspections and maintenance as part of its EV 4 CHANGE program.
ENECHANGE: Installs and maintains EV charging ports in line with delivery schedules, and analyzes data on charging volume and electricity costs as part of its new Business Plan for EV Charging.
Details and Future Prospects of the Initiative
In March 2024, four Mitsubishi ek Cross EVs were delivered to Tokyu Construction’s Tanimoto worksite (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Gakugei University General Office (Meguro Ward, Tokyo), and Isesaki worksite (Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture), where four 6kW Level 2 charging ports provided by ENECHANGE were installed. Mitsubishi Auto Leasing will continue to propose and provide EV leasing in line with Tokyu Construction’s vehicle adoption plans. ENECHANGE’s charging ports can be installed flexibly to suit the changing requirements of construction sites and worksites, and will continue to provide optimal charging solutions.

■About ENECHANGE’s ‘Business Plan’ for EV Charging
The ‘Business Plan’ by ENECHANGE, a leader in EV Level 2 charging ports installations, provides total support from installation to operation of EV charging facilities, helping companies resolve challenges in their EV transition. Starting at 5,500 yen per month, the plan allows centralized management of charging data such as the number of charging sessions and the amount of charge per vehicle. It extends beyond managing corporate EV fleets to assisting with the energy management of the entire organization.
Comments
Masashi Sakakibara, Tokyu Construction Sustainability Promotion Department
“At Tokyu Construction, we have established ‘decarbonization,’ ‘zero waste,’ and ‘disaster prevention and mitigation’ as our three core values. Given the recent drastic climate changes, our construction site staff have been particularly enthusiastic about contributing to decarbonization. There were challenges such as costs and facility preparation for introducing EVs, but with the cooperation of Mitsubishi Auto Leasing and ENECHANGE, we have been able to establish a scheme for introducing EVs to our construction sites. We will continue to promote the adoption and transition to EVs, contributing to the construction industry’s decarbonization efforts.”
Koji Kasuya, Head of Sales Division, Mitsubishi Auto Leasing
“This case exemplifies how the collaboration of Tokyu Construction , ENECHANGE, and Mitsubishi Auto Leasing has resolved the concerns and challenges associated with introducing EVs at construction sites. Going forward, we will support the shift towards decarbonization with our unique EV consultation program ‘EV 4 CHANGE,’ tailored to each customer’s situation and needs.”
