ENECHANGE CEO Receives Doctorate in Engineering from University of Cambridge

ENECHANGE Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director, CEO:Yohei Kiguchi, President and Representative Director, COO: Ippei Arita) is pleased to announce that our CEO, Yohei Kiguchi, received his PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in the UK on December 22, 2021. He started at the University’s Faculty of Engineering in 2013, and completed his doctoral research in June 2017, taking a leave of absence to prioritize ENECHANGE. He has now submitted his doctoral thesis and received his PhD.

Background

The Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in March 2011 made Kiguchi aware of the current state of the energy industry in Japan, and he decided to pursue a doctoral degree in engineering at the University of Cambridge. At the University, he conducted analytical research using machine learning technology on prediction models for electricity data obtained from smart meters*. He published two international journal papers, “Predicting intra-day load profiles under time-of-use tariffs using smart meter data ,[Energy, 2019] ” and “Predicting Winners and Losers under Time-of-Use Tariff Using Smart Meter Data [Energy, 2021] ”, which were published in the peer-reviewed journal Energy, one of the top peer-reviewed journals in the energy field.

* Electricity meters that enable visualization of electricity usage by transmitting electricity usage data using a communication function.
