ENECHANGE Supports Move Towards Renewable Electricity Through Association Promoting SDGs in Beauty Industry
ENECHANGE Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & CEO: Yohei Kiguchi; Representative Director & COO: Ippei Arita) is working with the Hairdressing and Beauty SDGs Promotion Association (Representative: Katsumi Hanzawa), which was established by Right Staff Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hanzawa Katsumi), a group company of M.H. GROUP LTD. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Reiko Akamine) which operates Mod’s Hair beauty salons, to support switching electricity plans to those using renewable sources. With the addition of five more companies (cosmetics manufacturer NIHON L’ORÉAL K.K., beauty dealers GAMO Co., Ltd., KIKUYA-BISYODO Inc., DALIA Incorporated, and POS register manufacturer TBCSCAT Inc.), we shall accelerate our initiatives towards converting the beauty industry to using green electricity and achieving the SDGs.
Initiatives led by RE100 member companies to get their various suppliers to use 100% renewable energy are spreading around the world In response, the number of inquiries we have received from companies wanting support for decarbonization rose 2.7 times compared to the quarter ending December 31, 2020. In addition to offering support for switching to sustainable energy options, ENECHANGE has also started the development and operation of GreenCart (https://green.natural-e.co.jp/ev), a platform for the online issue of Certificates of Green Power, which turn the environmental value of electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biomass into certificates that can be traded.
In the beauty industry, we provide support for decarbonization by working with the Hairdressing and Beauty SDGs Promotion Association, which was founded this spring, and with Right Staff in particular, which we entered into an alliance with this January. This involves issuing Certificates of Green Power and assisting their switch to renewable energy in order to reduce environmental impact, as well as offering support as an advisory service for the introduction of energy-saving equipment for hair salons and companies.
Status of support for the introduction of renewable energy-sourced power plans
The initiative has launched foreach salon in the two beauty salon groups that own several Mod’s Hair Group salons. Along with the estimated amount of power used annually, the switch to renewable energy is expected to lead to the following reductions in CO2 emissions.
Buddy (15 salons nationwide) *As of May 31, 2021
- Annual power usage
- approx. 96,000kWh*1
- CO2 emissions reduction forecast
- 42 tonnes
- Cedar tree equivalent
- approx. 3,000 trees*2
*1. Includes salons where support for introduction is being prepared.
*2. Calculated based on Forestry Agency data showing that one cedar tree absorbs about 14 kg of carbon dioxide.

Comment from ENECHANGE Ltd. executive officer, Kota Chishima
It is humbling to consider how the circle of support and cooperation towards decarbonization and promoting the SDGs in the beauty industry, which started with a partnership with people at the M.H. Group, which owns brands like Mod’s Hair and Right Staff, is rapidly widening to dealers, manufacturers, and beauty salon owners. Thanks to the cooperation of energy companies that tackle environmental issues head-on, the electricity plans ENECHANGE provides have evolved into a lineup that allows customers to select the plan that best suits their own requirements, from costs to environmental value. We shall continue to provide strong support for the promotion of the SDGs within the beauty industry by offering support for switching to renewable energy.
