ENECHANGE Adds MCP Tool Invocation Functionality to Its In-House Developed Open Source Slack Bot “Collmbo”

ENECHANGE Ltd.  (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tomoya Maruoka) announces the addition of a new external tool integration feature using MCP to “Collmbo,” the AI chatbot utilized in the company’s business chat tool, Slack.

MCP is like a “common language” that allows AI and various external services and tools to connect under the same rules. With the recent feature additions, in addition to simple conversations and inquiry responses by AI, it has become possible to automatically call and cooperate with various external tools. This enables the realization of more advanced operational efficiencies, such as web page summarization and document searches.

Background

ENECHANGE actively promotes the use of AI among all employees. In 2023, we introduced GPT-4 and established guidelines for using ChatGPT for all employees. We also developed a Slack-integrated chatbot with logging and filtering functions to ensure employees can use AI with confidence, as part of our efforts towards business reform. Through these initiatives, we are creating an environment that maximizes the convenience of AI in daily operations.

In recent years, the evolution of AI technology and the rapidly growing need for integration with external services have brought attention to MCP, a standard protocol for smoothly connecting AI with various external services and tools. Within the company, there has been an increasing demand for the ability to reference external sites and to further utilize AI in diverse tasks. Based on this, we have added an external tool calling function to “Collmbo” using MCP. With compatibility to MCP, AI can now support a wider range of tasks such as web page summarization and document search.

ENECHANGE allows engineers to release the tools they develop in their daily tasks as open source, actively contributing to society beyond their own company.

About “Collmbo”

“Collmbo” is an AI chatbot that can be easily used on Slack. It allows users to intuitively leverage AI capabilities in their routine work even without programming knowledge. We will continue to strive for further contributions to business efficiency and the expansion of AI use both internally and externally.
