ENECHANGE Ltd. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tomoya Maruoka) has developed and started providing new electricity and gas rate simulations for Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Company, Incorporated (Head office: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; President: Yasunori Kamiya; hereinafter referred to as Chubu Electric Power Miraiz). The simulation is equipped with a highly accurate rate comparison function against various electricity companies, and in addition to improving convenience for general users, it will also contribute to solving the rate simulation issues faced by retail electricity providers.

Background

Following the full liberalization of the electricity retail market, retail electricity providers are offering consumers a wide variety of services and tariffs, prompting consumers to choose the most suitable option. However, some tariffs are highly variable due to the influence of the electricity supplier and its business environment, making it essential to provide appropriate explanations and easy-to-understand information to enable consumers to make decisions.

The Government’s published ‘Guidelines for the Retail Sale of Electricity’*1 underscores the importance of providing consumers with appropriate information and specifies both desirable and problematic practices, recommending the presentation of easy-to-understand tariffs that include the risk of tariff fluctuations, explanations on their functioning, and comparison with other tariffs.

Chubu Electric Power Miraiz considered introducing a simulation system that enables comprehensive preliminary calculations of both electricity and gas tariffs. From the perspective of providing easy-to-understand information to consumers, the company chose ENECHANGE for its ability to compare other companies’ tariff plans, estimate the costs of both electricity and gas tariffs, and utilize ENECHANGE’s extensive database for its tariff simulation system.

The Chubu Electricity Miraiz tariff simulation allows users not only to estimate their electricity and gas bills but also to compare them with other companies’ tariff plans. It provides detailed calculations, including variable costs such as fuel adjustments and renewable energy levies, offering users highly transparent information.

By leveraging tariffs from approximately 200 electricity companies and 1,800 tariff catalogued by ENECHANGE, the database enables simulations with the latest values by researching and collecting data on the vast number of electricity tariff rates and monthly changing fuel adjustment amounts.

Design and UX Optimization

A simulation screen was developed that is compatible with both smartphones and PCs, using a design that reflects the Chubu Electric Power Miraiz brand image and a UX that incorporates ENECHANGE’s expertise, with a focus on visibility and ease of use. It provides a mechanism for users to easily compare rates.
