EV and PHV account for a record high percentage and volume of new vehicle sales in the January-March period of 2022

Changes in EV and PHV sales

In our EV Charging Service, we consider the sales ratio of EV and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV) that use charging facilities as a key indicator of the overall adoption of electric vehicles, as the adoption of EVs is linked with the expansion of EV charging infrastructure.
According to the “Sales of Vehicles by Fuel Source (Passenger Cars)” data published monthly by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association, the percentage of new EV and PHV sales from January to March 2022 was about 2.8% of total sales with 18,527 units sold, both record highs. In 2022, a variety of new EV models are scheduled to be launched, and further expansion is expected.
