ENECHANGE EV Charge enters condominium charging market, First TV commercial starring actress NON as a measure to strengthen promotion

ENECHANGE Ltd. is pleased to announce its entry into the condominium EV charging market with the Charge 3, a new 6kW EV charger for condominiums. In order to increase awareness of the zero yen installation and monthly fee plan offered by ENECHANGE EV Charge, the company will also hold promotional campaigns, including a TV commercial featuring actress NON. The company is the first EV charging service to launch such a campaign in the Japanese market.

ENECHANGE EV Charge announces entry into condominium charging

ENECHANGE has been actively promoting the installation of EV chargers at destinations with the goal of installing 30,000 EV chargers in Japan by 2027 with an investment of up to 30 billion yen. With the number of new EVs and PHVs sold topping 10,000 units per month (close to 4% of new car sales)*1 , we believe that charging at home during the night and then charging at destinations outside the home will become mainstream in the future. Hence, we are entering the condominium charging business.

With EV batteries increasing in capacity, cruising range is expected to increase further. Based on the idea that 6kW double-speed charging should become the standard for ENECHANGE EV Charge, we made 6kW the standard specification for the Charge 3 for condominiums. To make it easier for condominium management associations to consider installing the system, we have also prepared the industry’s first*2 “Condo Zero Plan,” which reduces the main cost burden to zero.

About the industry’s first Condo Zero Plan

ENECHANGE EV Charge will support the introduction of the system with the Condo Zero Plan for condominium management associations that are considering installing the system in shared condominium parking lots. The installation cost and monthly fee are zero yen, and the actual cost of metered electricity is also returned, making it possible for condominium management associations to install the system at completely zero cost.

Features of the Charge 3 6kW double-speed ordinary charger for condominiums

1. Wall-mount type compact design
A wall-mounted type is available for easy installation in condominiums. A shell-shaped design is adopted to make it easy to organize the 5-meter charging cable that leads from the main body of the charger. Since the cable can be wrapped around the main unit, there is no need to worry about the cable sticking to the ground and dirt can be minimized. In addition, the LED lighting on the front of the unit allows the user to check the normal charging status and any abnormalities.

2. Load balancing using smart meter data is possible
According to interviews with condominium management associations where EV chargers are installed, 90% said they are concerned about the amount of electricity used during peak hours when EV chargers are installed. In the case of high-voltage power contracts, since demand affects the basic electricity rates, consideration must be given to ensure that demand does not increase exponentially as a result of the installation. ENECHANGE is the only EV charging service provider that belongs to the Electric Power Data Management Association of Japan, and is characterized by its ability to acquire data directly from smart meters and control demand in accordance with the liberalization of electricity data (opening smart meter data to third parties) that will gradually begin in the summer of 2023. We are developing a load balancing system.

3. Sharing function that allows multiple people to use the system smoothly
EV owners are required to use the official ENECHANGE application to charge their vehicles at their condominiums. In addition to being able to start charging and charging, the system also allows penalty charges to be set for owners who do not leave their vehicles after a certain time has elapsed, as the app provides notification through the app for the vehicles to leavewithin a certain time after charging is complete. Thus, even if the number of units installed in a condominium is small, the system provides a mechanism that allows residents and users to effectively share a single charger.

About the first TV and taxi commercial featuring NON

The first TV and taxi commercial for ENECHANGE EV Charge features actress and artist NON. In the ad, she sings a custom ENECHANGE EV Charge song based on the children’s song “London Bridge”. The song was chosen for its catchy melody that everyone has heard at least once, in addition to the background that ENECHANGE is a company that originated from theUniversity of Cambridge in the U.K..
