ENECHANGE installs five 6kW EV charging ports at ISP Ikebukuro East Exit Public Underground Parking Lot Providing EV charging service with electricity derived from 100% renewable energy
ENECHANGE Ltd. announces that it has installed five 6kW Level 2 charging ports at the Ikebukuro East Exit Public Underground Parking Lot operated by Ikebukuro Shopping Park (ISP) Co.
Background
With the government’s goal of increasing the percentage of electric vehicles in new passenger car sales to 100% by 2035, ENECHANGE has set a target of investing up to 30 billion JPY to install 30,000 EV charging ports in Japan by 2027. In particular, the company is focusing on destination charging, which sees users top-up their EV after arriving at their destination, and is actively promoting the installation of 6kW charging ports at lodging facilities, commercial facilities, leisure facilities, golf courses, and other locations where people stay for 2-3 hours or longer.
The Ikebukuro East Exit Public Underground Parking Lot is directly connected to the JR and Tokyo Metro Ikebukuro East Exit. It is frequently used by travelers and shoppers, as it can accommodate 176 vehicles 24 hours a day. ISP, which operates the parking facility, is also involved in many aspects of the SDGs in cooperation with Toshima City, which aims to become a “Zero Carbon City”. From November 2021, the facility switched to renewable energy, leading to zero CO2 emissions. In line with their sustainability initiatives, they decided to install new EV charging facilities, and opted for the ENECHANGE EV Charge with 6kW output as a way for users to conveniently charge while enjoying Ikebukuro station and surrounds.
The installed EV charging ports will also run on renewable energy. In addition, considering the possibility of accidents involving contact between cars and charging ports in parking lots with limited space in the city center, they opted for ENECHANGE’s wall-mounted type, which can be installed without taking up much space.
In order to ensure both pedestrian safety and logistics on the ground, a portion of the parking lot is used as a shared cargo handling area on weekday mornings for pickup/delivery. Of the five EV charging ports installed in the parking lot, two are located in the shared cargo handling priority area to accommodate the shift to EVs in the logistics industry. When there are no vehicles for pickups or deliveries parked in the shared cargo handling priority area, ordinary EVs can also park and charge their batteries.
The number of EVs and PHVs per 10,000 people in Tokyo in Japan is 20.6, ranking 33rd in the country*. We will continue to contribute to the spread of EV charging infrastructure in cooperation with companies working to create local communities and achieve the SDGs.
* Calculated by ENECHANGE based on the Next Generation Vehicle Promotion Center’s “Subsidy Grant Status by Prefecture,” the number of EV and PHV subsidies granted (FY 2009-2021), and population estimates for October 2021.
