Launch of “Electricity Retail Withdrawal Support Service” for New Entrants, providing free support for smooth business withdrawal
ENECHANGE Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Yohei Kiguchi, COO: Ippei Arita; hereafter: ENECHANGE) will begin offering a free support service for energy companies that are unavoidably withdrawing from the retail business, leveraging the relationships it has built with energy companies through its electric power switching support service.
An increasing number of new electric power companies are exiting the retail electricity business in response to soaring prices of crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and other resources. On April 13, 2022, the Electricity and Gas Transactions Monitoring Commission (EGTC) issued a letter to energy companies regarding “Actions to be taken when withdrawing from the retail electricity business (Alert, etc.)”. The document clearly states that energy companies should ensure that subscribers have sufficient time to choose their next electricity supplier and that if there are no grounds for terminating the retail supply contract, they should continue to supply electricity while encouraging the subscriber to sign a new retail supply contract.
We have received many comments from new entrants saying, “While we would like to withdraw from the market, it is difficult to do so quickly because we are obligated to make every effort to continue supplying power to existing subscribers. If we don’t do anything, summer will come and we will face another tight power supply and demand situation.”By providing free support for energy companies withdrawing from the retail business, we will help them withdraw smoothly and provide support to alleviate the concerns of their customers.
