ENECHANGE CEO Yohei Kiguchi selected for Entrepreneru of the year, created by Japan Association of New Economy to recognize entrepreneurs who are changing Japan

ENECHANGE Ltd. is pleased to announce that Yohei Kiguchi, CEO of ENECHANGE, has been selected as the winner of the first JX Awards 2022, a newly created award by the Japan Association of New Economy to recognize entrepreneurial executives who are changing Japan.

Comment of Yohei Kiguchi, ENECHANGE CEO

I am very surprised and delighted to receive the first JX Awards for Entrepreneurs and to be named as a leader in changing Japan by the members of Japan Association of New Economy, all executives who represent the current business era.

About 10 years ago, I went to the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake as a volunteer and was confronted with the importance of Japan’s energy problems through my activities. Based on my findings and research, I founded ENECHANGE as an entrepreneur.

The world must cooperate and decarbonize urgently or the very survival of humanity will be at stake. In the wake of the Ukraine crisis, the importance of energy to the Japanese economy and our daily lives is also becoming more familiar. I feel a strong sense of urgency that there are too few challengers to tackle such an important energy issue. We at ENECHANGE will continue to take on the challenge of fundamentally changing Japan and the world by focusing our business on areas that contribute to deregulation, digitalization, decarbonization, and decentralization in this period of change, which can easily be called the energy revolution.

Selection Committee Members’ Evaluation

The challenge of achieving a decarbonized society, as well as the crisis in Russia and Ukraine, has made energy issues the most important agenda in the world. In this context, improving the efficiency of electricity use is an urgent issue not only for Japan but also for countries around the world. This venture company has established a leading position in the analysis and forecast modeling of electricity data. By recognizing this young “energy tech” company starting up in the UK and Japan, we would like to send a message of support for the early realization of the digital platform they are trying to create.

Mr. Kiguchi is a role model for the next generation of entrepreneurs who start their own businesses in their 20’s and are globally oriented from the start, in preparation for a decarbonized society. It is appropriate for the New Keidanren to encourge the next generation of talented people and send out a message about the attractiveness of the entrepreneurial option.

The Japanese government’s goal of reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 cannot be achieved without innovative technology, and ENECHANGE is a category leader in the energy tech space, capable of leveraging its big data and AI technology capabilities. The “Energy 4Ds” that they are working to achieve are: deregulation, digitalization, decarbonization, and decentralization. The company already has a global presence, with offices in the U.K. and Japan, and will go on to further global expansion. Furthermore, the business itself falls within the realms of ESG, but what is particularly commendable is the progressive approach to ESG and sustainability within the company. For example, in the area of S (Social) the company places great emphasis on human resource development and education, which is something that is not seen in other companies, and we commend the implementation of such initiatives.

The JX Awards are awarded to entrepreneurs, executives who are on the cutting edge of business and management and who will become the core of JX in the years to come. The winners are selected by a selection committee comprised of top executives.
