ENECHANGE and EVsmart start voting for “JAPAN EV OF THE YEAR 2024” award

Cast your vote to select the top EV of 2024

ENECHANGE Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tomoya Maruoka), is pleased to announce the commencement of voting for the “JAPAN EV OF THE YEAR 2024” from today. JAPAN EV OF THE YEAR 2024 is an award for selecting the top EV released in Japan between October 2023 and November 2024, in collaboration with ENECHANGE’s EV information media “EVsmart Blog” and its readers. The EVsmart Blog editorial team nominates the models, choosing one model per automaker.

Background of the award

Domestic sales of EVs and PHEVs from January to October 2024 are reported to be 83,613 units.*1 JAPAN EV OF THE YEAR aims to promote the adoption of EVs and EV charging infrastructure in Japan by highlighting the appeal of evolving EVs with new models released annually, and providing opportunities to understand their advantages and features.

The government has set a target of making 100% of new passenger car sales EVs by 2035. ENECHANGE, with its mission to “create the future of energy,” has been working on the development of EV charging infrastructure since 2021 to promote the spread of EVs as an essential component for the realization of a decarbonized society. EVs are expected to expand globally as vehicles that can significantly impact global energy issues, including as a measure against global warming. Moving forward, we will continue to work on spreading EV charging infrastructure to improve the convenience for EV users.

About JAPAN EV OF THE YEAR

ENECHANGE, which aims to achieve a sustainable society through the proliferation of EV charging ports, and the EVsmart blog, which has been disseminating EV information since its inception, launched the “JAPAN EV OF THE YEAR” project in 2022 to select attractive EVs demanded by society. In the first edition in 2022, the Nissan Sakura was the inaugural Grand Prix winner. In the second edition in 2023, the BYD DOLPHIN was selected as the Grand Prix winner.

Selection Method	There will be two types of voting: public voting and evangelist voting, and the “JAPAN EV OF THE YEAR 2024” will be determined by the number of points obtained from the combined total. 1. General Voting How to vote: Users can cast their vote through the voting form. They can vote for up to 3 models from the selected models. Each model receives 1 point. Votes must be accompanied by a 200-character recommendation comment. Votes without a recommendation comment are invalid. Voting is limited to once per account. <Voting Form> https://forms.gle/ffGJCNbWpPJsF65W6 Points Allocation: One point will be awarded for each valid vote cast during the voting period, which will be combined with the Evangelist Vote points. 2. Vote for evangelists How to vote: A request for voting was made from the EVsmart blog to media outlets disseminating EV information, journalists, and key figures from EV-related companies, who have insights into evaluating new EVs. The evangelists’ scores and comments will be introduced in a series of articles on the EVsmart blog. Score Distribution: Each evangelist has 20 points to distribute to the EV models. The EV with the highest rating must receive at least 10 points. There will be no limit to the number of EV models to be selected. For each model, evangelists will be asked to send a comment explaining their selection.
Awards	Grand Prix (1 car) The car with the highest total points from the public and evangelist votes will be awarded the “Japan EV of the Year” Grand Prix. Excellence Award(2 car) An excellence award will be established based on the points obtained and evangelist evaluations, among other factors.
