Notice of Resolution to Relocate Head Office to WeWork Tokyo Square Garden
ENECHANGE Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & CEO: Yohei Kiguchi; Representative Director & COO: Ippei Arita; hereafter:“the Company”) announces the relocation of our head office as established at the Board of Directors Meeting held on December 17. The decision to relocate to WeWork Tokyo Square Garden was made with the aim of changing from the current proprietary office to a flexible office that can accommodate highly productive work styles through the introduction of remote work, and to reduce costs through the sharing and efficient use of office space.
Background and purpose
On March 25, 2020, the day after the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s emergency press conference on COVID-19, we switched from office attendance for employees to remote work. Two months later, in May, we announced the “With COVID-19 Declaration” as our new work style, and with the attitude of “actively choosing to change,” we have permanently introduced a hybrid work style that combines office-based and remote work. Currently, the spread of COVID-19 in Japan has slowed down and mitigation measures are being taken nationwide, but our company views remote work as an effort to improve productivity amidst COVID-19 countermeasures and encourages a remote-first work style. At the same time, we believe that it is important to gather in the office and communicate face-to-face, so we encourage our employees to come to work once a week. 69.0% of our employees were working remotely as of November 2021, and we continue to maintain a remote-first work style. 92.2% of our employees responded in a monthly employee survey that they are “very productive”. In our monthly employee survey, 92.2% of employees responded that “the pace of work allows me to maintain a high level of productivity” (as of November). Hence, we have decided to relocate our head office from a proprietary office to a flexible office in order to further promote an efficient work style that combines office-based and remote work. As the name implies, the flexible office has advantages such as the ability to use the meeting room only when necessary and the ease of expanding as needed when the number of employees increases. This relocation will reduce the exclusive area of the office compared to the current office, so we expect to reduce fixed costs such as rent and utilities.
Planned relocation address
WeWork Tokyo Square Garden, Tokyo Square Garden 14th Floor, 3-1-1 Kyobashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan
Planned relocation period
Approximately July 2022
Comment from Yohei Kiguchi, Representative Director & CEO of ENECHANGE Ltd.
We made the bold decision to relocate to a WeWorklocation as a listed company. In the wake of the rapid spread of COVID-19 in March last year, we decided to quickly introduce remote work throughout the company, and at first there was some anxiety and confusion among our employees. However, more than a year and a half after the introduction of remote work, the percentage of employees who come to the office is now only about 30%, and we are shifting to a remote-first work style. Many of our employees have commented that combining working remotely and coming to the office has enabled them to work in a highly productive manner, and we decided to move from a proprietary office to a flexible office to accommodate this new way of working. We will continue to actively promote innovative ways of working and improve the office environment to achieve higher productivity in line with our employees and social conditions.
